The itinerary.. It is probably the hardest thing after finding sponsors (at least among the preparations). Where to go, what to see, how long, what to do once there? So many questions which don't necessarily need an exact answer before the departure but some preparations should avoid bad surprises such as: expenses out of control, having to turn back due to a missing visa, a closed border or a mountain with no road going through, etc...
The first step was to do a list of all country to be visited .. and then realized it would take about 3 years to do such a round the world! So after doing a serious selection it came down to a more realistic project. It wasn't supposed to be a “classical” trip where almost half of the world is left aside: Africa had to be a part of it and so was central Asia and Middle East; The northern and central part of America is also forgotten way to often.
The second step regards the order in which visiting all those places and for how long; this would come pretty easily if you didn't have seasons.. and that's a really complicated factors if you don't want to end up under daily showers and snow storms. Thankfully babakoto has this amazing software for world tour itinerary and weather prediction.
And that is how the itinerary of the 18 months “Project FreeBird” was created. It should give all the participants a pretty good overview of the world, its treasures and its people and more importantly a global vision of the daily water use around the world : from the desert in the Middle-East to the fog "fishermen" in Chili through the tropical countries of Asia. Also, the effect of global warming and human pollution observed on the world coral reefs will be reported.
Now, this is a prevision and the itinerary may change do to natural or human catastrophes, inappropriate weather conditions or financial reasons. Any major change will be reported and updates will be performed.
